The old sorcerer gave them an avuncular smile. "Yes, we're finished for today," he told the two young women. "Read the section on light magic for next class. Remember, do not attempt to use magic outside of class, understand?"
Horvath flapped a hand at both of them in dismissal. "Get along now, both of you. I'll let you know when we'll meet next."

If she got this exhausted just summoning a few sparks into a glass ball, then of course Bertie wasn't going to be using magic outside of class. Though she was very curious about those combative magics...Pondering this a little, she nodded absently as she curtsied politely.
"Very well, Mr. Horvath," she said with a smile. "When will we be meeting again?"
Perhaps she would prepare for some magical practice in the time between their classes. Not that she would do anything about it, of course.

Rapunzel nodded obediently. It was going to be hard for her not to use magic outside of class, since she had done so for eighteen years or so, but this kind of magic made her tired, whereas the kind she had done before had not, so Horvath really had nothing to worry about.
“See you then, everyone,” she said cheerfully, giving a little wave and making a mental note to read that chapter. She’d just have to find a place to do it in secret… but it was getting harder and harder to stay away from Eugene. If he found out, she’d be in big trouble…
[Rapunzel out!]

Horvath inclined his head to Rapunzel in farewell as the green-eyed girl left the apartment. He was pretty sure she wouldn't test the limit he'd set for the students. Roberta Moreland, on the other hand... there was a definite gleam of defiance in her eyes.
"I will contact you when I have made that determination," he repeated.

Bertie nodded slightly at this, fighting the urge to glower a little at him. For now, she would do her best to keep herself from practicing outside of class. After all, she was too tired to even consider it at this moment. With another curtsy, she took her hat in her hands and turned to leave.
"Until we meet again, Mr. Horvath," she said with a slight quirk of her lips that could be called a smile.
Moving slowly, she left the room, her focus ring feeling oddly heavy.

Anna pushed herself off the desk, moving to set the chairs and everything back in their proper places. "Well, that was interesting," she said. Her master looked to be pondering, as she tossed him a look.
"Whatcha thinkin', boss?"

Horvath's mouth quirked to the side in a wry smile. "Firstly, wondering how long it will be before you make a snarky comment concerning the... makeup... of the class." Might as well let her get her jokes over with right off the bat. Then they could focus on more serious matters.
He called the abandoned glass spheres to his hand and set them on the table, then sent the chairs back to their original positions as the Morganian Pentacle faded from visibility.

Anna grinned. "Well, if I didn't know you were such a prude, I'd be having definite questions. But at least we're all legal." With that, she shook her head, and let the matter go. She knew better than to prod too much at something silly with Horvath.
"Rapunzel's gonna be easy. Girl's kinda a bubble head. But that Bert? She's gonna be trouble," she said, sliding the last chair into its place. "You work the mojo on her or is she just that weak? And if she's that weak, can we still use her?"

Levity addressed and set aside, Horvath stroked his short beard thoughtfully. "I laid the fatigue spell on them both," he said. "I did not expect Miss Moreland to react so strongly. She will bear watching. She has some natural talent, and I think we will be able to get some use from her, but if she is that strongly affected by so mild a spell... We shall see. She can be removed from the program if she proves not to measure up."
The question was how they would remove her. Should the girl simply be mindwiped? Or killed, because mindwipes didn't always take.
Well, plenty of time to decide that later. It might even turn out she would not require removal at all.

Anna nodded. "Weren't there supposed to be two others? What are we going to do about them?" After all, it wouldn't be good to just leave people unaccounted for. Not when dealing with something like this.

"There were supposed to be four more, actually," Horvath replied. "Two have already made arrangements for making up this class. The other two..." His eyes narrowed slightly. "They will be dealt with. We have not made any particular study of thaumaturgy yet. I believe it may be time to address that lack, as I have hairs from our two... absentees."

A wolfish smile broke out over Anna's face. "Sounds like fun," she said. Going over to her Incantus, she flipped to the appropriate section. "You want me to study up on it first? Or are we just going to dive right in?"

"Read up on it first," he replied. Reaching over to one of the chairs, he plucked a short brown hair and held it up between thumb and forefinger. There seemed to be the barest hint of gold running through it, and a very, very faint magical sense about it that brought to mind sun-warmed flowers. Rapunzel's hair then.
Horvath took at tiny plastic bag from the desk and placed the hair inside. It never hurt to be prepared, just in case...
