Eris floated mid air on her stomach, gazing at her window to the mortal world. Not much was happening today, and the goddess of chaos was starting to feel bored. Never a good thing, especially for mortals.
"Mm... There must be something happening on this planet..." Eris mused aloud as her slender fingers turned her viewing globe to focus on other lands. Her eyes fell on a small kingdom. Not much, and hardly worth her time, but it was the darkness coming radiating not too far from said kingdom that really caught her attention.
Eris focused her gaze on the dark mountain range, the scene zooming up to her. An eyebrow raised slightly as a slow smirk grew on her face.
"Well, well, well..." Eris said. "I was wondering if she'd ever return..."
A soft chuckle echoed throughout Tartarus as Eris's constellation creatures crept closer to her, feeding off her dark aura.
"It would only be polite to welcome her home, wouldn't you agree, my pets?"
With that, the goddess vanished, only to appear once more within the Forbidden Mountains.

Maleficent had done her best to keep the Forbidden Mountain out of sight from the mortal world, disguising it as various things as time passed. Now, all she had to do was keep it from looking too mountainous and the mortals would ignore her. At least, that was the plan. It took a great deal of power to do even that much, and Maleficent wasn't about to waste her magic.
Sitting down on her elaborately carved throne, Maleficent adjusted her long robes, grateful to be once more be wearing them, rather than the ridiculous clothing of mortals. Going out among the mortals rarely proved useful or worthwhile, and this time it had left Maleficent in a foul temper.
That was when she sensed another presence. Not one of her many minions and slaves, who had survived the centuries rather well, surprisingly. No...this was someone much more powerful and frightening than her slaves. Standing slowly, Maleficent drew her staff closer to her body and narrowed her eyes.
"Who goes there?" she called.

When Eris made her appearance in the castle, she'd remained hidden from view. She'd wondered how long it would take the dark fairy to notice her presence. Apparently, not long at all.
Though wisps of smoke, Eris materialized in the throne room, applauding lightly.
"Impressive..." She said lightly. "Not many sense my presence before I will it."
Eris vanished, only to reappear once more in mid air. Her hair moved in a non-existent breeze as she rested her chin on her entwined fingers, her red irises locked with Maleficent's.
"You've been away far too long, Maleficent."

Who was this woman, Maleficent wondered with a frown. And how did she know how to get into the Forbidden Mountain? Standing up slowly, her hand tightly gripping the staff that she held in her hand, Maleficent arched a black eyebrow and eyed the floating woman warily.
"I am pleased to have impressed you," she said slowly and carefully. "Unfortunately, you have me at a disadvantage. I have no idea who you are, nor how you came into my home. Who are you?"
Obviously someone of great power. Only someone with such power could have come into her domain without being sensed immediately. Clearly, it had taken her a few moments before she could sense this other woman.

Maleficent didn't know what to make of her just yet, that much was clear. But Eris knew an ally when she saw one.
"I am Eris... the goddess of discord." Eris said, the usual pride seeping into her tone. "And of course I know of you... it's been many centuries since you've been stirring up trouble... perhaps we could change that."
Granted, Eris didn't have any ideas at the moment, and even when one came to her, it wouldn't be her actions that would cause the most chaos. That would be up to Maleficent...

Goddess of Discord...? Ah, yes. Maleficent had heard of this particular goddess. Of course, she ensured that she was familiar with all gods and goddesses in existence, so naturally Maleficent had heard of her. What surprised Maleficent was that such a goddess had heard of Maleficent herself.
Bowing respectfully before the goddess, Maleficent arched a delicate eyebrow. "You wish to call upon my services?" she asked curiously. "Now I'm curious."
And wary. Gods and goddesses did not simply choose a new servant without demanding something in return. Such was always the case. It was even that way with Oberon, who was not a god himself, but remarkably close.
"As for why I have not been causing trouble, I find staying alive preferable to being skewered again."

<Epic sig!>
Eris moved forward again, now standing in front of Maleficent. A smile that could almost be described as friendly (if Eris were truly capable of the trait) crossed her face.
"Oh no, you misunderstand." Eris said. "I'm not looking for your services."
The goddess moved away, casually walking around the room, casting admiring glances.
"Service is more trouble than it's worth, wouldn't you agree? Constant supervision is almost always required, and it's just a headache, particularly when you're dealing with flat-out incompetence."
Eris turned back to face Maleficent once more.
"I'm looking for an ally."

Maleficent arched an eyebrow at this. She didn't trust this goddess of chaos. Of course she didn't. She would have to be a fool to trust this Eris. After all, chaos was a force to be reckoned with, and you couldn't control it or trust it to do what you wanted.
"An ally?" she repeated with a slight smirk. "And what would you want with one such as me? It is not as though I am the most powerful being you could take on as an ally."
Oh, it hurt her ego to admit that much, but she did know it to be the case. After all, there were other fairies of greater power than her. Crossing her arms with an air of one who does not care to hear something unpleasant, she waited for Eris to explain herself.

She still wasn't trusted... if the timing were appropriate, Eris would have feigned being hurt at that fact, even though she knew it technically was for good reason (and good sense, really) that Maleficent didn't trust her.
"You might not be the strongest in the sense of power, no." Eris agreed. "But your thirst for chaos nearly rivals my own. That's what makes me want you as an ally. Together, we can bring this world to it's knees.
"Now... about being skewered... I can certainly understand your desire to avoid that fate again. I give you my word that I will not allow you to fall again like that. And when a goddess gives her word, she's bound to it."
To further her point, Eris dragged her finger across her heart, slicing her skin lightly as a gold cross appeared.
"What do you say?"
<I know in the movie, the cross over Eris's heart was silver, but she's a goddess, and has ichor, which I've always heard described as being gold. Anyway, close this thread after your reply?>

Maleficent eyed the goddess carefully, as though trying to calculate what were Eris' true intentions. Finally, she eyed the cross that the goddess had placed on her own chest and nodded slightly, as though satisfied. She was still not, of course. It would take time for Maleficent to come to trust this mysterious goddess of chaos. Still...such an alliance would only be beneficial to her in the future. No one of the fairy courts would dare try and drag Maleficent back if she had a goddess on her side.
Bowing low, still gripping her staff tightly, Maleficent smirked ever so slightly at Eris. "Then, my lady," she said in a low purr, "you have my word that I will most willingly join you in whatever attempt at creating chaos you have in mind."
To seal the deal, Maleficent reached within the folds of her long cloak and pulled out the now-corrupted Sword of Truth. With the hilt of the sword in her hand and the tip of the blade pointing at the ground, Maleficent faced Eris.
"I swear upon my own magic, which now surrounds this very blade, that I will not betray you," she said solemnly. The magic surrounding the sword glowed a dull, sickly green for a moment before Maleficent once more hid the sword away. "I believe, then, that we have an understanding," she murmured, sitting down once more on her throne.
