Elisa sighed as she walked into her apartment and slipped off her jacket. She put her gun in its safe before locking it and shutting the drawer.
"Long night, Cagney." Elisa said as she scooped up her cat and made her way to the kitchen. "You hungry?"
Her cat rubbed against her chin, purring loudly. Elisa chuckled lightly.
"I'll take that as a yes. Meow Mix coming right up."
Elisa poured food into Cagney's bowl and walked into her living room, flopping back on her couch. If Elisa didn't know better, she'd say the full moon had caused everyone to check their brains at the door. Nothing too bad had happened, especially considering that it was New York City, but lots of young teenagers had decided to play a few pranks on the citizens. It was a headache for everyone at the station as they brought them in so they could all their parents to pick them up and file all the paperwork... in fact, the desk sergeants were still typing up the reports for the vandalized properties when Elisa's shift had finally ended.
"Long night..." Elisa said again to no one in particular.

Free for the day- though Oberon had lifted his geaes on his Puck, his was still commanded to mind little Alex Xanatos- Puck had left the Eerie Building for some fun. The full moon was brilliant tonight, a rare sight in a city like New York. It called to the faerie, summoning him to come and play his tricks on unsuspecting mortals.
This time, though, he had other business to attend to. He had a debt to acknowledge to one Elisa Maza.
Puck appeared in the detective's top-floor apartment, pleased to see that she was home and, more importantly, didn't seem to have her gun in hand. Iron was quite unpleasant.
"Yes," he said cheerfully, ready to vanish to the other corner of the apartment just in case she was packing and he hadn't spotted it. "Full moons are like that."

Elisa's eyes were closing as she teetered on the verge of falling asleep on her couch. A sudden voice jerked her forcefully back as she leaped to her feet, her brown eyes blazing as they fell on it's source.
"Puck! What are you doing here?"
Elisa's history with the changeling was... she didn't have a word for it. Most times Puck met the gargoyles, she wasn't directly involved. Except of course for the night he turned the entire city into gargoyles. Elisa still got a headache just thinking about that night.
Though she would admit (to herself) that Puck's actions that night, and all the other times the clan had dealt with him weren't entirely malicious. It was strange, but she never got the feeling that he truly meant to do harm. Whether that fact remained true tonight remained to be seen.
"Y'know, knocking is a bit more traditional here in the mortal world." She continued, her guard still up, but a little less hostile than she initially was.

Puck, always happy to be obliging, especially for a pretty lady like Maza, knocked lightly on the wall before settling himself cross-legged in midair.
"Oh, nothing much," he said conversationally. "Oberon was kind enough to lift the bindings he set on me, so I've been out making a few rounds whenever Mr. Xanatos doesn't have need of Owen. It occurred to me that I owe you for some of my past mischief, but there wasn't much I could do about it properly while I was stuck being Owen."
The faerie flitted forward to hover at Elisa's eye level. "But I can address the debt I owe you now. See, you were never my target, and it's bad form to let innocents get caught in tricks too often."
And since Puck believed that there was a debt involved, he was honor-bound as a faerie to make sure it was repaid as soon as possible. Faeries hated owing others.
But he wasn't going to tell Elisa that. She was already too clever by half.
Come to think of it, that was why Puck liked her.

Elisa couldn't stop rolling her eyes as Puck knocked on the wall in response.
"Yup... walked right into it." She said.
Elisa thought about making a quip about being shocked that Oberon unbent enough to unclip the leash, but knowing how Faeries didn't often take kindly to those who spoke ill of their master, she kept it to herself. Still, she wondered if Puck being out and about (when he wasn't serving Xanatos as Owen) was part of the reason her shift had been so busy.
The thought was still going through her head when he suddenly floated toward her, looking directly at her. Elisa wondered what had gotten Puck to act so uncharacteristically serious, though she'd gotten an answer to that unspoken question fairly quickly.
"A debt?" Elisa repeated, that clearly being the last thing she'd ever expect from him.
So she'd been his target before... unintentionally on his part it seemed, but he felt he owed her something for it. Elisa couldn't begin to imagine what he could do for her, and then there was the fact that most of her encounters with magic hadn't exactly been high points.

"A debt," Puck repeated. He smiled a little. Mortals always looked so surprised when he told them he owed them a debt. Granted, he didn't do it too often, preferring to repay what he owed with a complicated trick that resulted in the person receiving some favor or gift without realizing Puck was behind it. Elisa Maza was of a different kettle of fish. He liked her, and she was on a very short list of mortals he had any respect for. She was a plucky little thing.
The faerie steepled his fingers. "So," he said, still grinning, green eyes dancing. "What shall the lady have of me? A favor? A wish?" He drifted backwards a little, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps she will save her request. The lady is a valiant warrior who is often finding trouble. Being able to call the Puck down on her enemies might be a handy thing, hmm? She knows first-hand what I can do." The grin broadened. "Some of it, anyway. I don't give away all my tricks, after all."

Elisa wasn't entirely sure this a great idea. Her experience with magic hadn't usually led to good experiences... She'd been turned to stone, aged to nearly a century old in a matter of seconds, sent on a mystical journey that had kept her away from home far longer than she'd liked, and then there was the matter of all the attacks of just magical energies over the past few years.
On the other hand, she had to admit that the brief time she'd spent as a gargoyle was nice. For a few hours, she and Goliath could truly enjoy their time together, the normally present complications of what they had were gone. Very briefly, she considered asking Puck to make her a gargoyle permanently, but she couldn't do that. She had her job, and her family, and she couldn't be so selfish as to walk away from that.
Still, Elisa knew that Puck was offering her this opportunity because he felt he owed her a debt, and she also knew that Faeries took their debts to others very seriously. Her refusing an offer could end badly...
"I don't really have anything I need right now." Elisa said honestly. "But I'll hold onto it, and call you when that time does come."

Puck smiled. Even if she didn't want to discharge the debt right now, at least she was savvy enough not to refuse it.
He'd always known this girl was much smarter than Demona. It would have been a shame if he'd had to turn around and curse her, like he'd done with the lady gargoyle.
On the other hand, said gargoyle had attempted to force him to kill every human in New York City, one of the largest metropoli in the world. He had been planning to twist Demona's wish around from the start. Her refusing to accept his 'gift' had merely been an added bonus. Not even Oberon could have protested Puck's actions when a faerie gift was refused.
"Milady is brave and wise," Puck said, half-purring as he smiled. All about the theatrics, was old Robin Goodfellow. He clasped one of Elisa's hands in his own, folding her fingers to her palm as his eyes glowed with green Glamour.
"A boon to mortal owed Forms a most heavy load So let Elisa summon Puck Ere she need Midsummer Luck."
He blew lightly on her closed hand, and the magic coalesced to form a green gem beneath her fingers. After all, if she was going to call on him, she needed a way to get a hold of him.

Elisa watched, a little wary as Puck performed his spell. Not much had come of it however, aside from a smooth green stone appearing in her hand. Elisa wondered if most of it was just Puck's theatrics, but she studied the stone with interest.
"So, I just hold it and call you?" Elisa asked, wondering if it was really that simple. Granted, in her experience, sometimes things were very simple, but still, the detective was still lingering in the mindset of 'this is too good to be true'. If she used the stone, she wanted to be sure that she was going to do it right, and that she wouldn't be led into a situation similar to the monkey's paw.

The hobgoblin's smile spread nearly from ear to pointed ear.
"That's it exactly," he told her. "Just like a cell phone, but with much better service."
He resettled himself in his cross-legged position. Elisa still looked a little wary of the gift he'd offered her. Not really a surprise there, given their mutual history.
"You're worried I'm out to trick you," he said dryly. "A reasonable concern. You forget though, I like you, Detective Maza. You've got spunk. And you've been known to give Xanatos headaches, which is always fun to watch, even though Owen would never say so." Puck laughed. As much as he enjoyed working for Xanatos, he also loved watching him trying to pull things together when they got out of hand. If ever a man born deserved the title of trickster, it was David Xanatos. "I swear by my lord Oberon that I would never intentionally pull you into mischief meant to cause you harm, my dearest Detective."
