~~~The Basics~~~
Character Image
Character Name The Cheshire Cat, sometimes shortened to just Cheshire or Chessur.
Character's Origin Any adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, but specifically the 1951 and 2010 Disney film versions.
~~~About My Character~~~
What is your character's history? Are they a hero, or a villain, a sidekick or guardian? What has happened to them in their lives to make them the way they are today?
The Cheshire Cat acts as neutral amongst the other Wonderland residents, being not exactly good or evil. He is, however, a kind of sidekick, offering advice to those who need it and being cryptic about it in the process. Not much is known about the mysterious grinning feline. He has been a resident of Wonderland and specifically the Tulgey Wood for as long as anyone can remember. Some residents would claim that he originally belonged to the Duchess, while others would say that he didn’t belong to anyone. There have been many disputes especially in the Royal Court of the Queen of Hearts that the Duchess went missing because of him. Why else would she have not appeared in Wonderland for a very long time? Some just assumed that she went on an extended vacation while others think that the vacation may have been permanent. The Queen of Hearts wasn’t really worried about the Duchess’s absence, although she was a bit upset that she had one less head to chop off in her kingdom. To her, the Cheshire Cat was just a nuisance and a prankster, always showing up and causing mischief especially at her croquet games. She would have had his head chopped off a long time ago, but the cat’s famous ability to disappear and reappear at will made this impossible. Surely, you cannot remove a head from its body if there is no body there to remove something from. To help keep her anger at this to a minimum, the Queen had the cat banished to the outskirts of the kingdom, but he always managed to return uninvited and mysterious as ever. With that, he comes and goes as he pleases, always making sure to greet newcomers to the Wonderland realm.
Describe your character's personality. What are their strengths and weaknesses, what are their passions? What qualities do they have that are good or bad?
The Cheshire Cat has the personality of a trickster; cunning, sly, cryptic, mysterious, with a healthy dose of madness thrown into the mix. His madness is one that is subtle, but also very noticeable at times. If newcomers to Wonderland are perplexed by his usual question of whether or not they are mad, he will grin at them and reply that they would indeed be mad or they wouldn’t have come there in the first place. His wide toothy grin is one of his most endearing features, besides his ability to appear and disappear at will. He will at times completely remove his head from his shoulders and perform a balancing act on it, while other times he will stroll about completely invisible with only his paw prints being noticeable to others. He occasionally likes to sing and will recite the refrain of the ‘Jabberwocky’ poem almost everywhere he goes. Being a cat, he does enjoy the thrill of hunting and stalking prey usually consisting of local fauna, although certain residents would claim that he also occasionally partakes in the consumption of multicolored mushrooms that grow in the deepest parts of the Tulgey Wood.
~~~Sample~~~
Give us a small sample of how you will play your character. Give us at least three paragraphs.
Deep in the Tulgey Wood, but not so deep as to completely block out the sun’s penetrating light, a low hum emanated from the lush treetops. It was almost inaudible, but it steadily grew in tone and pitch becoming the only noise in the entire area, save for the sounds of flapping wings belonging to a few birds leaving the branches. They didn’t want to be around when this individual was in the area.
The individual in question moved silently through the thick branches of the multicolored trees before coming to rest on a particular thick outgrowth of a tall tree with a few signs nailed to its blue trunk. These signs were white with black lettering displaying a sense of direction on each one, but pointing haphazardly. UP, THIS WAY, YONDER, BACK, THAT WAY, and DOWN were the only words that a few of these signs displayed and for anyone not familiar with the territory, they only served the purpose of making anyone wandering through even more lost.
The humming then turned to singing and distinctive words could be made out that were the refrain of a very familiar poem.
”’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.”
The singing slowly faded and all was quiet again. The birds that had left though did not dare return to their perches. They knew the individual was still there waiting and watching for any sign of movement. And when he felt that the time was right, he would strike with the efficiency that his kind were known for. Suddenly, a white sliver of light cut through the shadows cast by the canopy of the tall blue tree. It wasn’t really a sliver of light though, but a wide grin revealing brilliant white teeth. A pair of bright yellow eyes soon followed, dropping one at a time into place in midair. They casually glanced around the woods and stopped on nothing in particular as a round head with tiny ears and fur tufts, a purplish-red nose, and six short whiskers came into view. A plump body with light pink-colored paws and alternating pink and purple stripes soon followed, ending with the formation of a large bushy tail. After surveying his surroundings again, he leaned back against the trunk of the tree and closed his bright yellow eyes in deep thought. The Cheshire Cat had returned home.
~~~Bonding~~~
Why this character? What draws you to them, what makes you want to play them? Do you have anything in common with them?
I absolutely love this character and I never got frightened by him at all whenever I watched the movie. I think I was just fascinated by his mysterious ways and wanted to be just like him in that regard. I’ve memorized all his lines from the movie with near perfect timing and can repeat them pretty close to how Sterling Holloway portrays him, voice and all. I love mind games and riddles, so his personality fits me rather well too. I also share his wide and sometimes unnerving grin that creeps the hell out of my friends. XD
What would you like your custom title to be? This can be anything you like in reference to your character and will appear under your name.
Mysterious grinning feline
Who else do you play here?
This is my first and only character so far.
~~~Newbies~~~
What is your name? (If you're not comfortable telling us your real name, that's fine. Just give us a pen name that we can use when addressing you.)
Evan is my real name, but I also like to be called Magic.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m an artist, mostly working with pen and pencil, but I do like to sculpt. I’m also a casual photographer and avid video game player. I enjoy RPing and writing fanfics and I’m in the process of writing my own fan-novel. Like any typical college student, I enjoy sleeping and watching TV and dislike doing homework unless it’s actually something enjoyable.
How did you find us?
I was referred to Disney Uncut by my then and still current girlfriend.
What do you think of the site so far?
It’s a little different than how Disney Uncut was laid out, but I like the colors and I’ll probably grow to love the site more over time. =)
Did you pm The Dreamer with the secret sentence? (If you haven't, check the rules!)
Yes, I did. I actually don’t know whether or not to describe the secret sentence as being clever or silly, but it is effective.
